Lien Wei-wen to make first campaign appearance with Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen for Tainan candidate

Former Kuomintang (KMT) Vice Chairman Lien Wei-wen is set to make his first public political appearance since leaving his post, campaigning for Tainan mayoral candidate Hsieh Lung-chieh.

Lien's debut campaign event will take place in Tainan, the city of his birth. He will join Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen to support Hsieh. The event is scheduled to include a visit to the historical site of Lien Ya-tang's former residence, the great-grandfather of Lien Wei-wen and a prominent historian.

This move comes amid subtle shifts within the KMT. While other party factions, including Chairman Cheng Li-wen, have recently leveraged the Lien family name, particularly through former Chairman Lien Chan's son and associates during mainland visits, Lien Wei-wen's choice to appear alongside Lu Shiow-yen suggests a distinct alignment. Lu has maintained a close relationship with Lien Chan for years, and was notably among the few KMT county and city leaders invited to Lien Chan's recent diamond wedding anniversary banquet.
