Lifebuoy supports highland students with scholarships, health care and school supplies

The new school year brought practical support to students at schools in Lai Chau, Lao Cai and Quang Tri, where some campuses face damaged infrastructure, difficult conditions and limited facilities.

At Phuc Than Primary School in Lai Chau, a flash flood on July 17 caused extensive local damage. Mud and rocks entered some school grounds, forcing teachers, parents and local forces to clear and repair the sites before the school year began. Schools in Lao Cai and Quang Tri also serve disadvantaged border areas.

Lifebuoy worked with provincial youth unions, the Vietnam Youth Federation and young doctors’ associations in the three provinces. The program financed construction, repairs, facility upgrades and sanitation improvements at schools in Phuc Than, with a total value of 670 million dong.

The organizers also distributed 2,200 packages containing antibacterial products and footwear, provided 1,000 free health examinations and consultations, and awarded 70 scholarships worth 60 million dong. Students received new sandals, explored the school-year gifts and practiced handwashing with soap. The support was designed to help them start the school year in a more cheerful, confident and eager frame of mind.
