Lifesaving 'chain of life' revives man suffering cardiac arrest in Hsinchu

A remarkable "chain of life" rescue successfully revived a 50-year-old man from New Taipei City who suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while on a trip in Hsinchu County. Mr. Wu experienced severe chest pain and lost consciousness on July 26th.

His wife immediately sought help from passersby. Fortunately, a coach leading students nearby assisted in moving Mr. Wu from the car and initiating first aid. Private ambulances and local fire department units arrived sequentially, with advanced life support provided by the Hsinchu County Fire Bureau's advanced life support technicians.

The patient's pulse was restored upon arrival at the hospital, indicating that the pre-hospital emergency care was very successful, allowing the hospital to seamlessly continue subsequent treatment.

During the pre-hospital treatment, Mr. Wu received five defibrillator shocks and emergency medications. His spontaneous circulation was successfully restored before he was transported to Tuen-Mun Hospital. An electrocardiogram revealed an ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, prompting immediate transfer to the hospital's cardiac catheterization lab.

Cardiologists confirmed a complete blockage in a major coronary artery and performed a successful angioplasty and stent placement, restoring blood flow and saving the heart muscle. Doctors emphasized the critical importance of rapid intervention in such cases, noting that timely treatment significantly improves survival rates. Mr. Wu is recovering well and has expressed profound gratitude to everyone who participated in his life-saving efforts, allowing him to reunite with his family.
