Ligue 1: LFP seriously considering new tender for TV rights

The French Professional Football League (LFP) is actively exploring the possibility of launching a new tender for the broadcast rights of its top-tier football championship, Ligue 1. Olivier Bramly, CEO of LFP Media, the league's commercial arm, confirmed to AFP that the organization is "very seriously considering" a new bidding process.

Bramly stated that the LFP is currently analyzing "a certain number of expressions of interest" from various parties. He indicated that the league expects to soon recommend the most suitable approach to its member clubs regarding the future of its media rights. The decision to proceed with a new tender will require approval from both the Ligue 1 clubs, who are seeking to maximize revenue, and the LFP's administrative board.

While Bramly did not specify the exact period these new rights would cover, reports from L'Équipe suggest a tender could be launched in October for the 2029-2034 period. This move comes as the LFP aims to secure lucrative deals for its domestic league, following a trend of evolving media landscapes in sports broadcasting.

In parallel, Bramly expressed satisfaction with the initial performance of Ligue 1+, the league's new streaming service launched last weekend. He highlighted that the service has already recorded "very encouraging initial figures," with over 700,000 viewers tuning in for both the Champions Trophy and the Rennes-PSG match. These numbers place the service among the top 10 most-watched broadcasts from the previous season.
