Ligue 1: Paris Saint-Germain Begin Season with Three Games Without a Win

Paris Saint-Germain started the Ligue 1 season with three games without a win, including a first defeat against AS Monaco. The setback came shortly after the club had created a celebratory mood ahead of its first home game.

Captain Marquinhos put PSG ahead in the 31st minute. Monaco responded after the break, with Nazinho equalizing in the 58th minute and Stanis Idumbo scoring the winning goal in the 72nd. Paris Brunner started for the Monegasque side.

Monaco moved to the top of the table with nine points, already seven points ahead of PSG. The result marked a sharp contrast with the previous season, when Paris defended its Champions League title and completed a domestic league and Champions League double.

PSG had also used the buildup to renew Luis Enrique’s contract. The club extended the deals of Lucas Beraldo, Senny Mayulu, João Neves and Willian Pacho through 2031, while Fabián Ruiz signed through 2028. Enrique’s original contract had been due to expire at the end of the season.

The 56-year-old Spaniard joined Paris in the summer of 2023 after coaching Barcelona and the Spanish national team. Since then, he has guided PSG to all of its domestic and international successes.
