Lille, led by Davide Ancelotti, moves top after 1-0 win and turns to Betis

Ayase Ueda’s rebound goal gave Lille a 1-0 win at Toulouse and sent Davide Ancelotti’s team temporarily to the top of Ligue 1.

Ueda, who had replaced Oliver Giroud minutes earlier, scored in the 73rd minute after Toulouse goalkeeper Mathys Niflore diverted Romain Perraud’s effort from the left. Niflore had entered the match around the hour mark after the injury of starting goalkeeper Guillaume Restes.

The result gave Lille seven points. The team has won twice away from home, against Angers and Toulouse, while it also held a 2-0 lead against Paris Saint-Germain in its first home match before conceding an equalizer in stoppage time.

Toulouse, beginning a new phase under Danish coach Jens Berthel Askou after the departure of Spain’s Carles Martínez, remains without a win. It lost to Lyon and drew with Brest.

Lille has also lost Ayyoub Bouaddi, described as its best player, after his transfer to Manchester City. The team now turns to the Champions League, with Betis due at Lille on Tuesday for the opening matchday. Lille moved above Monaco, the only Ligue 1 side with a perfect record, before Monaco’s visit to PSG on Friday.
