Lindsey Graham’s sister appointed to fill vacant US Senate seat

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has appointed Darline Graham Nordone, the younger sister of the late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, to fill his vacant US Senate seat. The appointment comes hours after President Donald Trump publicly advocated for Nordone's selection, describing it as a "fabulous tribute" to the senator.

Nordone will serve in the US Senate until Senator Graham's current term expires in January. Graham, a prominent foreign-policy hawk and close ally of Trump, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 71 over the weekend. Governor McMaster expressed his honor in asking Nordone to "finish his work for him now."

Senator Graham, who never married or had children, shared an exceptionally close bond with his sister. Their parents died when they were young, leading Graham, then 22, to formally adopt his 13-year-old sister. He supported her through school and largely raised her, fulfilling a promise to care for her after their father's death.
