Lionel Richie remains in intensive care as doctors conduct heart tests

Lionel Richie remains in intensive care three days after being taken to hospital immediately after a concert at The Muny, an open-air theater in Forest Park, St. Louis, Missouri.

The news alarmed fans of the American singer, known for hits including “Say You, Say Me.” According to information reported by TMZ, Richie has not yet been discharged and is undergoing heart examinations.

The outlook appeared more encouraging after unofficial information suggested that he could leave the hospital on Wednesday, Sept. 2. The report said he would then need about 25 days of rest before returning to the tour he postponed after its opening show in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was also expected to return to the stage for fans in Chicago.

Fans who attended the concert told TMZ that Richie appeared unwell near the end of the performance. He had to ask for a chair so he could catch his breath and try to finish the show, which ended up being shorter than planned. Richie is the father of Nicole and Sofia Richie.
