Live at 4:30 p.m.: Heading Toward Genocide

A man sentenced to life in prison for war crimes by the Hague Tribunal is being given a send-off with military honors, while clergy from the Serbian Orthodox Church conduct the funeral service at the highest level.

N1 will discuss what such a funeral says about the state and society’s relationship with the wartime past. Journalist Miloš Milić, who reported for years from numerous Hague Tribunal trials, will join the program to examine how a convicted war criminal could receive state honors.

The second part of the broadcast will focus on the Faculty of Philosophy in Niš. Its professors say the government and the Education Ministry are attempting to undermine the institution financially and institutionally. The program will ask what is happening at the faculty and why it has become a target of the authorities.

N1 will also address Serbia’s political future ahead of the upcoming elections, with Professor Natalija Jovanović of the Faculty of Philosophy in Niš as a guest.
