Liverpool cult hero Origi retires from football at 31

Divock Origi, a beloved figure at Liverpool, has announced his retirement from football at the age of 31. The Belgian striker, who cemented his legacy with crucial goals in the club's 2019 Champions League triumph, shared his decision on social media.

My purpose in the game as a player is fulfilled. I lived out my childhood dreams to play on the biggest stages and win the biggest trophies. I am grateful to God for all of it.

Origi is particularly remembered for his pivotal role in Liverpool's dramatic comeback against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals. He scored twice in a memorable 4-0 victory that overturned a three-goal first-leg deficit. He also contributed to the team's win in the final against Tottenham Hotspur.

Beyond European success, Origi was a notable performer in the Merseyside derby, scoring six goals against rivals Everton, including a late winner at Anfield that sparked a jubilant pitch invasion by manager Jurgen Klopp. In total, he netted 41 goals in 175 appearances for Liverpool, often as a substitute.
