Liverpool FC Unveils 'Forever 20' Memorial for Diogo Jota and Brother

Liverpool Football Club has dedicated a permanent memorial to forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva at Anfield, marking the first anniversary of their deaths. The memorial, named "Forever 20," is situated on 97 Avenue outside the stadium, a spot where supporters had previously placed numerous tributes.

Jota, 28, and Silva tragically died in a car accident in Spain on July 3 last year. The "Forever 20" memorial, designed by Emma Rodgers, features a heart-shaped sculpture inspired by Jota's signature goal celebration. The sculpture also subtly displays the numbers 20 and 30, representing the shirt numbers worn by both brothers.

According to Liverpool FC, the memorial integrates items left by fans, such as sections of scarves and shirts. It also includes a bronze cast of a flower left by a supporter and a PlayStation controller, nodding to Jota's passion for gaming and one of his celebration poses. The plinth beneath the sculpture bears a dedication to the brothers and is made with stone from their hometown in Gondomar, Portugal.

The memorial also features lyrics from a Liverpool chant for Jota, set to the tune of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Bad Moon Rising." Supporters sang this chant at the 20-minute mark of every home match last season. The club stated that "Forever 20" will serve as a lasting symbol of love, unity, and remembrance, providing a space for reflection and respect.
