Livestock theft ranks among top concerns for communities in Darién, Chepo and Emberá territory

Livestock theft remains a major concern for communities in Darién, Chepo and Emberá territory, where producers and families say the problem has affected them for years.

The issue was raised during a Citizen Security Dialogue held in the district of Chepo and led by Public Security Minister Frank Alexis Ábrego. Community representatives used the meeting to seek answers about the impact of livestock theft on their regions.

Authorities presented the main problems affecting the territories and listened to residents’ needs and proposals. Alongside livestock theft, community representatives expressed concerns about health and education.

Ábrego said listening to communities was a priority for the Ministry of Public Security. He said members of the Public Force were committed to responding to the issues raised during the dialogue. The minister also urged residents to report crimes and encouraged parents to reinforce education at home.

The Ministry of Public Security said it would monitor the communities’ concerns and promote coordination with other institutions to seek responses.
