Loaded gun found in car after fatal three-vehicle collision in Limerick

A loaded pistol was found in a vehicle involved in a fatal three-vehicle collision on the N21 in County Limerick, Ireland. The passenger of the car died at the scene, while the driver fled before police arrived. The collision occurred Monday night between Abbeyfeale and Newcastle West. The deceased, believed to be Scandinavian, was identified, and his remains were taken for a postmortem examination. The gun, discovered during a routine examination of the vehicle, has been sent for ballistics testing.

The driver of the first car left the scene on foot and Gardaí are seeking to identify this person.

Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage from the N21 between 11 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Monday. The drivers and passengers of the other two vehicles involved sustained minor injuries. The road was closed for forensic examination.

Road users who may have camera footage – including dashcam – and were travelling on the N21 from Newcastle West towards Abbeyfeale between 11pm and 11:30pm on Monday are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
