Londerzeel invests 1.8 million euros in residential care center renewal: 'Air conditioning is coming to the dining hall'

The Londerzeel municipal government is allocating more than 1.8 million euros to modernize the Herfstvreugde residential care center, addressing critical infrastructure needs. Mayor Nadia Sminate highlighted the investment as a significant catch-up effort to update aging facilities and prepare the center for future demands.

The comprehensive renovation plan includes substantial upgrades to essential systems. Approximately 304,000 euros will fund gas and fire detection systems, while 260,000 euros are earmarked for new kitchen equipment. The replacement of boilers will cost 200,000 euros, with an additional 170,000 euros dedicated to water pipe modifications and 150,000 euros for elevator repairs.

Recognizing the impact of extreme weather, the municipality is also investing 160,000 euros in ventilation systems. The dining hall will receive air conditioning, and resident rooms will be fitted with sunshades. "In a time when we are increasingly confronted with extreme weather conditions, these investments are not a luxury," Sminate stated.
