Longan trees in Taichung's Dakeng area are currently laden with ripe fruit, with branches hanging so low they are nearly parallel to the ground and within easy reach of pedestrians. This abundance has presented a "natural buffet" and a "cruel test of human nature" for hikers and passersby.

Photos circulating online show dense clusters of golden longans hanging from branches, some extending over the road. A hiker shared that while walking the Dakeng trails, the sight of the fruit made them consider picking just one, but they ultimately resisted the temptation. The images have prompted humorous online comments, with netizens calling the situation a "moral trial ground" and a "test of hands, not eyes."

Local farmers have pointed out that these seemingly accessible longans are the result of careful cultivation and hard work throughout the season. They are not wild or abandoned fruit. While in the past some individuals would use umbrellas to hook the fruit from trees, this behavior has reportedly decreased in recent years. The best course of action, farmers emphasize, is to resist the urge to pick the fruit, respecting the growers' efforts and leaving the harvest intact.
