Lu Show-yen Calls for Blue-White Cooperation as DPP Critic Says Alliance Has No Platform

Taichung Mayor Lu Show-yen's call for cooperation between Taiwan's KMT and Taiwan People's Party has drawn a sharp response from the city's Democratic Progressive Party caucus.\n\nLu appeared at the Taichung Battle Gyroscope Carnival alongside Chiang Chi-hsien, the KMT's candidate for Taichung mayor, and TPP Chairman Huang Kuo-chang. Lu said, "Unity and cooperation have never been an easy path, but together we both benefit, while division brings losses to both sides." Huang said he believed Chiang's succession in Taichung's government would make the city better. Former TPP chairman Ko Wen-je has also publicly endorsed Chiang.\n\nChou Yung-hung, the DPP caucus leader in the Taichung City Council, said the grouping showed that the politicians were more concerned with whether TPP votes could be added to the KMT's total than with how Taichung residents viewed Chiang. He argued that the mayoral election should determine the city's direction for the next four years, rather than calculate how two parties should divide votes.\n\nChou also challenged Chiang to present his own plans for the city and urged Lu to place nearly eight years of administration before voters for review. He said the campaign had increasingly become about a "Blue-White alliance" instead of Chiang's urban agenda. In his words, Lu and Chiang had "only parties, no achievements; only cooperation, no platform."
