Lufthansa to Suspend Flights to Kazakhstan for 2025-26 Winter Schedule

Lufthansa announced on June 18 that it will temporarily suspend flights to Kazakhstan for the upcoming 2025–26 winter schedule. This decision marks the second consecutive year the airline has halted its winter service on the route connecting Frankfurt with Almaty and Astana.

The company cited a "comprehensive assessment and optimization of the route network" as the reason for the suspension. In a statement released by its press service, Lufthansa highlighted factors such as cost efficiency, seasonal fluctuations in demand, the dynamics of jet fuel prices, and limited aircraft availability due to extensive fleet modernization. The airline emphasized that ensuring a stable, punctual, and reliable flight schedule remains a key priority, especially during the winter season which demands increased operational resilience.

Currently, Lufthansa operates five flights per week on the route to Kazakhstan. According to the company's plans, Lufthansa is scheduled to resume its service to Kazakhstan in the spring of 2027. This extended pause in service will impact travelers between Germany and Kazakhstan during the winter months for the next two years.
