Lunar's Expense-Sharing App ShareIt to Shut Down August 15

Users of the expense-sharing app ShareIt have only a few days left to settle their outstanding shared expenses before the application ceases to function. The app, developed by the digital bank Lunar, is scheduled to shut down permanently on Saturday, August 15.

Lunar notified its customers about the app's closure via email in June. After the deadline, ShareIt will no longer be accessible, and users are strongly advised to finalize any shared expenses before this date. The company stated, "After August 15, ShareIt will no longer be available. Therefore, we recommend that you finalize any shared expenses before then."

Once the deadline passes, users will be unable to add, share, or view expenses through the app. ShareIt was launched in 2023, following the closure of a similar app, WeShare, by MobilePay. Lunar quickly gained thousands of users for its payment app after WeShare's discontinuation. Within its first week, ShareIt was downloaded by 40,000 users, and it surpassed 100,000 users after three months.

ShareIt, like WeShare, allowed users to log expenses on an ongoing basis, with the app automatically calculating who owed whom. Lunar explained the decision to close ShareIt by stating that user needs have evolved since the app's launch. "Therefore, we no longer see the need for a separate app. We are carrying the experiences from ShareIt forward into the development of the Lunar app, so we can make it even simpler for users to manage their finances," the company said. Lunar has not yet specified how these features will be integrated into its main application. Following its Danish launch, ShareIt was also introduced in Norway and Sweden.
