Luo Dong Elementary student Zhou Muyan wins silver at Beigang Mazu Cup table tennis tournament

Luo Dong Elementary student Zhou Muyan secured a silver medal at the fourth Beigang Mazu Cup National Table Tennis Championship, reaching the finals of the third-grade girls' singles. After a hard-fought match that went the full five games, she was narrowly defeated 2-3, falling just short of the championship title.

Despite the close loss, her coach, Chen Bo-zhi, expressed confidence in Zhou's development. He noted that her performance in the national tournament marked a significant step forward, bolstering her skills and experience. Chen believes she is now well on her way to achieving her goal of becoming a junior national player and representing Taiwan.

Zhou, who began playing table tennis in first grade, transferred to Luo Dong Elementary in third grade to pursue more intensive training. The Beigang Mazu Cup featured over 500 participants in her category, with Zhou being the only medalist from Yilan County.

In the championship match, Zhou initially took a 2-0 lead against her opponent from Le Li Elementary in Taipei. However, her opponent rallied to win the next two games, forcing a decisive fifth game. The final game was a tense back-and-forth affair, with Zhou ultimately losing 13-15. Although she shed tears of disappointment, Coach Chen encouraged her to continue her efforts.
