Macut appeals to citizens to save electricity; emergency staff meeting scheduled

Prime Minister Đuro Macut has called on Serbian citizens to use electricity sparingly in the coming days as a severe heatwave places immense pressure on the nation's energy infrastructure. Macut described the current situation in the energy sector as "serious and demanding."

The challenges are compounded by exceptionally low water levels on the Danube River and persistently high temperatures, which are placing a significant strain on the electro-energy system. The government and relevant institutions are actively implementing all necessary measures to preserve the stability of the energy supply and ensure uninterrupted service for citizens and businesses, Macut stated. The situation is being monitored closely, he added.

Macut specifically appealed to the public to reduce their use of air conditioning units and other high-consumption electrical appliances, particularly during peak usage hours. This conservation effort is crucial to help manage the demand and prevent potential disruptions.
