Madrid swimming pools close for the season this weekend

Madrid’s summer swimming pools are preparing for their final weekend, even as temperatures remain firmly in summer territory. Municipal pools will close on Sunday after a season of hot-weather swimming in the capital.

The State Meteorological Agency forecasts a high of 38°C on Saturday and 36°C on Sunday, with overnight lows of 25°C and 24°C and little chance of rain. Temperatures could reach 37°C on Monday and 35°C on Tuesday before falling more sharply to around 28°C on Wednesday.

Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida was asked about extending the municipal pool season because of the continuing heat. "We will see how the heat evolves, but in principle it ends," he said from Plaza del Carmen, leaving open the possibility of reviewing the situation while retaining Sunday as the official closing date.

Residents can take their final swims at municipal pools including Peñuelas, Mistral, Casa de Campo, Moratalaz, La Elipa, Vallecas and other facilities across the city. Pools managed by the Community of Madrid will also close on Sunday, including Puerta de Hierro, San Vicente de Paúl, Canal de Isabel II and M86.
