Magnitude 4.0 earthquake shakes La Guaira and Caracas

A magnitude 4.0 earthquake jolted the state of La Guaira and affected several areas of the Greater Caracas region early Tuesday morning, causing alarm among residents. The Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research (Funvisis) reported that the epicenter of the seismic event was located 10 kilometers northwest of La Guaira, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez stated via Telegram that the National Protection System was activated to monitor the situation following the earthquake. The tremor occurred at 3:07 a.m. local time and was felt across various parts of Caracas. This seismic activity follows a significant earthquake event that impacted La Guaira on June 24, when a double earthquake of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 struck the region.

According to a report presented by Parliament President Jorge Rodríguez earlier this week, the death toll from the June earthquakes had risen to 6,438. This figure represented an increase of 137 fatalities compared to the previous week's report, highlighting the devastating impact of the earlier seismic event.
