Magong Kindergartens to Offer Fresh Milk or Unsweetened Soy Milk Every Day

Magong’s municipal kindergartens will start the new school year with more than freshly cleaned classrooms and kitchens. From Sept. 1, every child will also receive either fresh milk or unsweetened soy milk each day.

Staff members completed final preparations on Aug. 31 despite rainy weather in Penghu. Childcare workers, preschool teachers, kitchen staff and other employees cleaned classrooms, common areas, teaching equipment and kitchen facilities, while checking the equipment before children returned.

The added drink will supplement the kindergartens’ existing meals. The Magong City Office will cover the additional cost and make the service a regular part of the new academic year rather than a one-time campaign.

Mayor Huang Chien-chung said young children are in an important stage of growth. He said the city’s early-childhood program focuses not only on teaching quality and safety, but also on children’s everyday nutritional needs.

Huang said the quality of public preschool education is reflected in daily details, including lessons, facilities and meals. The city office plans to continue reviewing the kindergartens’ needs while improving care measures with nutrition, safety and childcare quality in mind.
