Major shareholder in Zhaoji faces financial crisis; New Taipei City assures housing services are normal

Concerns have arisen regarding a financial crisis affecting a major shareholder of Zhaoji, a company involved in property management and social housing rental services. Zhaoji is currently managing approximately 900 social housing cases in New Taipei City, a service crucial for many residents.

Despite the reported financial difficulties of a key shareholder, the New Taipei City government has stated that current operations are unaffected. The Department of Urban Development confirmed that rent payments to landlords are being processed normally and that the services provided by Zhaoji remain consistent.

City officials clarified that Zhaoji is not contracted for the fifth phase of the city's social housing program, scheduled to commence in 2026. That phase will be handled by different contractors selected through a national housing and urban renewal center initiative. The department emphasized that Zhaoji's involvement is limited to the city's fourth and 4.1 phases of the rental and management program, encompassing over 900 units.

The city government has pledged to enhance oversight of Zhaoji's contractual obligations and will monitor the company's operational status in coordination with central government agencies. This measure aims to safeguard the interests of both landlords and tenants involved in the social housing scheme. The city highlighted that its social housing program, including cases managed by various other companies, collectively involves over 50,000 households.
