Make the most of Tuesday's fine weather, but watch for afternoon thunderstorms in eastern Taiwan

Tuesday is expected to bring mostly favorable weather across Taiwan, although residents in eastern areas and southern mountain regions should watch for afternoon thunderstorms. The Central Weather Administration said the Taipei mountain areas and the Keelung north coast could see isolated brief showers.

Most other areas will remain cloudy to sunny. Localized brief showers are possible in eastern and southeastern Taiwan, as well as in mountain areas in central and southern Taiwan during the afternoon. People heading out at night were advised to carry a light jacket because temperatures could feel cooler.

Daytime highs should reach about 30 to 32 degrees Celsius in western Taiwan and 28 to 30 degrees in the east. Overnight and early-morning lows are expected to range from 23 to 25 degrees. Penghu will be partly sunny, with temperatures of 26 to 29 degrees, while Kinmen and Matsu will see similar conditions and temperatures of 25 to 29 degrees.

A weak northeast monsoon is expected to move south from Wednesday, bringing more cloud cover and brief showers to eastern Taiwan. The monsoon should weaken by Friday as winds shift toward the east, with northern and eastern areas facing isolated brief showers. The weekend is expected to remain mostly cloudy under an easterly wind pattern.

The ultraviolet index will reach high levels in Hsinchu, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, Taitung, Kinmen and Lienchiang, and excessive levels elsewhere. Air quality will be rated good in the Hualien-Taitung area, moderate in northern Taiwan, Hsinchu-Miaoli, Yilan and Penghu, and at the orange advisory level in central Taiwan, Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan, Kaohsiung-Pingtung, Matsu and Kinmen.
