Man (30s) dies after being hit by van in Co Kilkenny

A man in his 30s has died following a collision with a van in County Kilkenny. The incident took place on Wednesday morning around 9:30 a.m. on the R693 road near Arigan Bridge in Freshford.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was subsequently transported to University Hospital Waterford for a postmortem examination. Gardaí, Ireland's national police force, are investigating the circumstances of the collision and have appealed for witnesses.

Authorities are specifically requesting that any road users who were traveling between Freshford and Kilkenny between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday and who may possess relevant camera footage to come forward. Information can be provided to Kilkenny Garda station, the Garda Confidential Line, or any Garda station.

This tragic incident marks the 101st road death in Ireland this year, compared to 95 fatalities recorded by the same point in 2025. The figures highlight a concerning increase in road fatalities on Irish roads.
