Man, 60, Arrested for Attempting Sex with Minor Met on Chat App; Claims Ignorance of Age

A 60-year-old man has been arrested in Cheongju, South Korea, for attempting to solicit sex from a minor he met via a mobile chat application. The incident came to light on July 27 when the man was apprehended by police on charges related to violating the Act on the Protection of Children and Adolescents Against Sex Offenses.

The man reportedly lured the 16-year-old girl to his residence in Sajik-dong, Cheongwon-gu, Cheongju, on the morning of the arrest. He is accused of attempting to engage in sexual activity with her. However, the girl resisted his advances and contacted acquaintances, who then intervened.

During the altercation, the man allegedly called the police himself when the girl and her acquaintances protested. Reports indicate a physical scuffle occurred as the man attempted to force them out of his home. In his statement to the police, the man claimed he was unaware that the girl was underage.
