Man Accused of Killing Employer's Girlfriend After Being Given Shelter

A man taken in by a karaoke bar owner is accused of brutally assaulting and causing the death of the owner's girlfriend, an act described by the victim's sister as "biting the hand that feeds you."

The accused, identified as Lin (32), had been living as a homeless person before the karaoke bar owner, surnamed Guo, kindly offered him employment and shelter in May of the previous year. Just three days after starting work, Lin was permitted to use Guo's rented residence to shower.

The victim's sister hopes he will be sentenced to life imprisonment, denouncing that they had no enmity, yet he repaid kindness with cruelty and beat her to death. She added that he shows no remorse and has no grounds for a reduced sentence.

Later that day, Guo went to the residence to wake his live-in girlfriend, surnamed Li (61), so they could go to work at the karaoke bar together. However, an argument erupted between Lin and Li in the bedroom over an unspecified matter. Enraged, Lin allegedly kicked Li repeatedly in the head, chest, and abdomen.

Li suffered severe injuries, including a brain hemorrhage, 10 broken ribs with pneumothorax, a ruptured spleen, and respiratory failure. She remained hospitalized for 22 days before succumbing to complications, including hypoxic brain disease, pneumonia, and lung abscesses. The prosecution is seeking a sentence of 11 years and 6 months to 13 years, citing the accused's lack of remorse and high risk of reoffending, noting his four prior convictions.

The prosecutor believes that Lin does not meet the conditions for voluntary surrender, and was assessed to have normal behavioral discernment at the time of the crime with a high risk of reoffending in violent crimes. Given his poor character with four prior offenses, a sentence of 11 years and 6 months to 13 years is requested.
