Man accused of shooting his partner transferred to hospital

A tense standoff in Santa Cruz de la Sierra ended tragically Friday night when a 29-year-old man, accused of shooting his 19-year-old girlfriend, turned the weapon on himself. The incident occurred in the El Recreo neighborhood of Plan 3.000, where police had established an operation to persuade the man to surrender.

The suspect, identified as Iván S. J., was being sought for a suspected attempted femicide in the community of Tipoy. He had been armed and in a public street for several hours, causing significant tension among residents. Police, including specialized units like Delta and the Criminal Analysis and Intelligence Department (DACI), cordoned off the area to prevent further harm.

Despite efforts by police and his family to convince him to disarm, a gunshot was heard during the operation. The man had shot himself and was subsequently transported by ambulance to a medical center. His condition has not been released.

The victim, María Eliza A.Q., sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was initially taken to Los Pocitos hospital. She was later transferred to the Japonés hospital, where her condition is described as reserved due to the severity of her injury. Police are investigating the attack, having collected evidence including shell casings from the scene.
