Man arrested after killing acquaintance during drunken argument in Seoul

A 50-year-old man is in custody after allegedly killing his acquaintance during an intoxicated argument. The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The incident occurred on June 20 around 12:50 p.m. in Jongno District, Seoul. According to police, the suspect and the victim, a man in his 40s and a neighbor, were drinking together when a dispute erupted. The suspect is accused of assaulting the victim multiple times, leading to his death.

Following the assault, the suspect reportedly contacted the police. Initially, he claimed that a person was found dead, attempting to frame the situation as a natural death or an unattended demise. However, he later confessed, stating, "A person is dead, I might be the suspect."

Emergency services were called to the victim's residence, where he was found unresponsive. He was transported to a hospital but was pronounced dead. Police apprehended the 50-year-old man at the scene as a 현행범 (hyunhaengbeom), meaning he was caught in the act or immediately after the crime.

Authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the altercation and the full circumstances surrounding the death. The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
