Man arrested after ramming patrol cars during drunk driving chase

A 40-year-old man was apprehended in Jinju, South Korea, following a pursuit by police. The incident began around 3 p.m. on the 29th when the man, identified as A, allegedly threatened a female employee at a temple in Okbong-dong with a firearm and attempted to force her into his vehicle. The employee managed to escape and immediately called the police.

Responding to the emergency call, which reported a firearm threat, the police initiated a chase as A's vehicle fled towards Sancheong. The pursuit continued until A's car reached Wonji in Sancheong, where patrol cars from the Wonji substation joined the effort. However, A turned the vehicle back towards Jinju.

Police, alerted to the vehicle's return direction, set up a roadblock on National Route 33 near the Naengjeong intersection in Jipyeong-myeon, Jinju. Approximately one hour after the incident began, A's fleeing vehicle was stopped by the police blockade. In an attempt to escape, A rammed his vehicle into the police cars multiple times, causing minor injuries to four officers from the opposing police station who were driving the patrol cars.

Authorities confirmed that a toy gun resembling a firearm was found in A's vehicle. A breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.076%. The suspect is currently under investigation for charges including special obstruction of justice, and police plan to seek an arrest warrant.
