Man arrested for spray-painting graffiti on 18 vehicles and homes in Veurne

Police in Veurne, Belgium, have arrested a man suspected of vandalizing 18 vehicles and homes with yellow and green graffiti. The incidents took place last Friday night, between 10 p.m. and midnight, primarily in the Duinkerkestraat and nearby streets.

We were able to identify and apprehend the perpetrator for questioning. He was under the influence when the offenses were committed.

According to police chief Geert Verslype, the perpetrator used spray paint on multiple cars, houses, gates, and even a lamppost. The suspect, identified as a local man, was apprehended after an investigation. He was reportedly under the influence of substances at the time of the offenses. Following questioning, the man was released, but victims have been advised they can pursue civil action.

The car of my mother's friend was parked in the Duinkerkestraat. Two stripes of graffiti were applied, on the hood and on the side of the car.

One victim, Mathias Polley, described how his mother's friend's car, parked on Duinkerkestraat, was targeted with two stripes of graffiti on the hood and side. Polley estimates the repair costs to be several hundred euros, potentially reaching €500 once insurance and professional cleaning are factored in. Attempts to remove the paint themselves were unsuccessful, and the garage is awaiting insurance assessment before proceeding with repairs.

It concerns a total of 18 incidents. Paint was sprayed with a spray can on multiple cars, but also on homes, gates, and a lamppost.
