Man arrested for threatening ex-partner with backhoe in Jeju

A 60-year-old man in Jeju faces arrest after allegedly using a backhoe to threaten his former partner and assaulting her son. The incident occurred on May 28 when the suspect drove the heavy machinery to the woman's home, demanding they reconcile. Police responded to the initial threat and sent the man home. However, he returned about three hours later, intoxicated, and again threatened to "demolish the house" with the backhoe. During this second confrontation, the woman's son was assaulted when he attempted to intervene. The backhoe was reportedly a vehicle the couple used together before their separation. Police apprehended the suspect as a 현행범 (in the act of committing a crime) and are continuing their investigation into the precise sequence of events. Authorities noted that while the couple had recently broken up and the man had been persistently contacting the woman, there were no prior reports of stalking.
