Man Arrested in Kyrgyzstan on Suspicion of Multi-Million Som Fraud

Police in Kyrgyzstan's Batken region have arrested a 45-year-old man suspected of defrauding individuals of more than 5.3 million Kyrgyz soms (approximately $60,000 USD).

The investigation began when a 27-year-old resident reported that an acquaintance, identified as M.Sh., had taken five cars in May 2025, promising to help sell them. In addition to the vehicles, the suspect allegedly accepted 3.51 million soms from the complainant under the pretext of starting a business, assuring the money would be returned promptly.

However, M.Sh. reportedly disappeared shortly after, switching off his phone and evading contact. The total material damage to the victim has been calculated at 5,295,000 soms. A criminal case has been initiated under the "Fraud" article of the Criminal Code, and the suspect has been placed in a temporary detention facility while the investigation continues.
