Man arrested in Niš for multiple assaults, including attack causing victim to fall under bus

Niš police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with a series of assaults that occurred over a three-day period. The suspect is accused of initiating multiple incidents, including a violent attack on a man and a woman at a bus stop on Bulevar Nemanjića.

According to the Police Administration in Niš, the suspect verbally assaulted the 55-year-old man and the 76-year-old woman without provocation around noon on July 19. He then physically attacked the man, who fell onto the woman before falling onto the roadway directly into the path of an oncoming bus. The man sustained multiple severe injuries and was transported to the University Clinical Center's intensive care unit.

The 76-year-old woman also sustained minor injuries during the fall and was taken to the Clinical Center by ambulance. Police reported that prior to this incident, the arrested man had also assaulted a 49-year-old man on a bridge connecting Đerdap and Romanijska streets, delivering multiple blows without any apparent reason.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect had also verbally abused his mother on the evening of July 17 and fled his home. He was subsequently issued an emergency restraining order prohibiting him from approaching his place of residence due to domestic violence. However, he violated this order the following day by going to his mother's home, though he did not attack her on that occasion.

The prosecution has been informed of the suspect's alleged actions, and a decision will be made regarding the charges he will face in court.
