Man Arrested in Venezuela for Allegedly Inciting Teen's Suicide

Authorities in Barinas, Venezuela, have arrested a 46-year-old man, Andrés Peña Medina, accused of inciting the suicide of a 13-year-old girl. The victim, Maira Alejandra Pereira Díaz, died on July 31. The arrest took place in the rural area of Los Vencedores, on the road to Hato Viejo in the San Silvestre parish.

According to the Cuerpo de Investigaciones Científicas, Penales y Criminalísticas (Cicpc), Peña Medina had allegedly abused Pereira Díaz three years prior, taking advantage of his relationship with her grandmother. The police agency stated that he had also been harassing the teenager recently. Investigators believe these actions are connected to her decision to end her life.

Following the discovery of the minor's body, Cicpc officials interviewed individuals close to her and intensified their investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding her death. Peña Medina has been placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office. The case highlights the severe impact of alleged abuse and harassment on vulnerable individuals.
