Man arrested over Sydney kebab shop gangland shooting

A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an attempted gangland assassination in Sydney's west last year. Detectives from Taskforce Falcon and the Raptor Squad apprehended the suspect at a home in Narwee on Friday afternoon. He is expected to be charged in relation to the shooting that occurred at an Auburn kebab shop.

The man is alleged to have been the gunman who fired on underworld figure Samimjan Azari in an Auburn kebab shop.

The target of the attack, Samimjan Azari, a figure within Sydney's underworld, survived being shot in the shoulder. An associate, 25-year-old Kali Taiseni, sustained life-altering injuries after being shot in the face. A 47-year-old shop worker was also wounded during the incident.

Authorities believe the arrested man was the gunman responsible for firing multiple shots inside the kebab shop. Following the incident, police discovered a burned-out Audi in Greystanes, which is suspected to have been the getaway vehicle. The investigation is ongoing, with police seeking further information.

His associate Kali Taiseni, 25, was shot in the face and police said he was expected to have life-long injuries.

The shooting was reportedly the fourth attempt on Mr. Azari's life. Tensions have been high following a split within the powerful Alameddine crime family, which has led to a series of violent incidents. Previous attempts on Azari's life include a near-miss in Brighton-Le-Sands, a shooting that resulted in the death of a former Alameddine clan member in Granville, and an incident in Rosehill where Azari escaped unharmed.
