Man arrested with ammunition near Trump golf club ahead of president's visit

Authorities arrested a man carrying ammunition and firearms near the Trump National Golf Club in Los Angeles County over the weekend, just days before President Trump's planned visit for a Republican National Committee event. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reported that plainclothes federal agents observed a suspicious individual on the golf course grounds, photographing and videoing activities.

The individual was observed walking throughout the golf course grounds taking photographs and videos and appearing to monitor security-planning activities.

Deputies detained the individual, identified as 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele of Downey. During the detention, deputies found a 16-round magazine with hollow-point ammunition in Taele's pockets. A subsequent search of his vehicle uncovered a loaded pistol with a round chambered and an additional loaded magazine also containing hollow-point ammunition.

Deputies detained Taele and located his vehicle in a parking lot on the golf course.

Taele was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm and possessing prohibited ammunition. Recognizing potential security implications, detectives, with the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force and the U.S. Secret Service, obtained and executed a search warrant for Taele's residence. There, investigators recovered an illegally modified AR platform rifle, a .45 caliber pistol, an AR platform upper receiver, body armor, high-capacity magazines, bulk ammunition, radio signal devices, and notebooks with "concerning statements."

During the detention, deputies recovered a 16-round magazine containing hollow point ammunition from Taele's pants pockets.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be added. Taele remains in custody, and the case was presented to the LA County District Attorney's Office for filing consideration. President Trump was scheduled to attend a fundraising dinner at the golf course on Tuesday.
