Man Charged in Nantes After Confessing to Mother's Murder

A 42-year-old man in Nantes has been charged with the murder of his mother, an 80-year-old woman who had been deceased for two weeks. The suspect turned himself in to police last Friday, confessing to the crime and leading authorities to the victim's apartment.

According to police sources, the man admitted to striking and then suffocating his mother after an argument. He had reportedly obstructed the apartment's openings after the incident. Police discovered the octogenarian's body at the scene when they responded to the suspect's confession.

The Nantes public prosecutor, Antoine Leroy, stated that there are "few explanations at this stage" for the man's actions, beyond the fact that the son is "facing serious drug addiction problems." Investigations into the case have been assigned to the interdepartmental judicial police service.

The motive for the killing remains unclear, but the suspect's significant drug addiction issues are being considered as a potential contributing factor by investigators.
