Man charged over Brisbane park death

A 27-year-old man faces charges including unlawful striking causing death following an alleged assault in a Brisbane park that resulted in the death of a 66-year-old man.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday at a West End park, located at the corner of Thomas and Vulture Streets. Police will allege that a fight erupted between the two men, during which the younger man struck the older man. The impact caused the 66-year-old to fall and sustain a head injury.

Emergency services transported the injured man to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Authorities have stated that the two men did not know each other prior to the altercation.

Police arrested the 27-year-old suspect in Fortitude Valley on Sunday night. In addition to the charge of unlawful striking causing death, he also faces a charge of possessing dangerous drugs. He is scheduled to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
