Man confesses to murder in Vosges forest, citing arms trafficking dispute

A man has confessed to the assassination of 77-year-old Alain Chantaduc, whose body was discovered partially burned and bearing multiple stab wounds in a forest in Éloyes, Vosges, on June 28. The suspect, an acquaintance of the victim, admitted to the killing at the scene where the body was found.

Investigators identified the victim through autopsy and genetic analysis. Chantaduc, originally from Meurthe-et-Moselle, had a significant criminal history, including a life sentence for a murder committed in 1991 during a robbery in Toulouse. He had served over 25 years in prison.

Prosecutors announced that the suspect has been charged with assassination as a repeat offender and with desecration of a corpse. He has been placed in provisional detention.
