Man dies after falling at Ica staff party in Norrtälje

A celebration marking 50 years of Ica Kvantum Flygfyren in Norrtälje turned into a tragedy after a man in his 20s fell from a great height shortly before 10 p.m. on Saturday.

The event was held for a closed group at Johannesberg Castle in Gottröra, just under 30 kilometers from Norrtälje. About 170 employees and invited guests had been expected to celebrate the anniversary together. After dinner, one of the guests fell outdoors and died.

Tommy Larsson, the deputy manager of Ica Flygfyrens, described the death as the loss of a young person and said the company had activated crisis support. Psychologists from Ica, municipal crisis counselors and priests were brought in, while those affected gathered to talk and process what had happened.

Police have opened a preliminary investigation into murder. Police spokesperson Robert Sennerdal said the classification allows investigators to use the necessary investigative measures, but stressed that “There is nothing to suggest that it should be that.” He said the case was being investigated broadly and was not being led by a prosecutor.
