Man Dies After Trying to Stop Thief in Brisas del Este

A confrontation with a suspected thief turned fatal in Brisas del Este when Randy González Peña, 30, was fatally stabbed in the chest. The incident occurred Saturday evening as González Peña and his brother attempted to apprehend a man they identified as "Elvito."

According to the victim's family, "Elvito" had a history of theft, including allegedly stealing merchandise from the victim's mother's store. He was reportedly seen stealing again from a local business, prompting González Peña and his brother to pursue him with the intention of detaining him for the police.

During the pursuit, González Peña reportedly reached the suspect first. The suspect then allegedly dropped his stolen items, produced a knife, and stabbed González Peña in the chest, causing his immediate death. The suspect fled the scene and remains a fugitive.

González Peña, who worked occasional jobs including construction, was described by his brother as someone who intervened to stop the crime. His family is now calling on authorities to apprehend the suspect and to address the growing insecurity in the neighborhood, citing the suspect's alleged prior offenses. They are working to retrieve González Peña's body from the National Institute of Forensic Sciences.
