Man dies in rear-end collision on A61 autobahn

A fatal rear-end collision on the A61 autobahn in Germany claimed the life of a 44-year-old man from the Aachen region. The incident occurred between the Nettetal and Viersen exits as the man was traveling towards Koblenz in a pickup truck.

According to police reports, the driver, for reasons yet to be determined, crashed into the end of a traffic jam. His vehicle struck the rear of a truck, resulting in the fatal outcome. Emergency services arrived at the scene but were only able to recover the driver's body; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 54-year-old truck driver sustained minor injuries. The autobahn remained closed for approximately three hours, until around 8:45 PM, to allow for rescue operations, accident investigation, vehicle recovery, and cleanup of the roadway. Investigations into the exact circumstances and cause of the accident are continuing.
