Man drowns at popular Taoyuan recreation spot during holiday

A holiday outing turned tragic when a 20-year-old man drowned at Liuxiagu Valley in Taoyuan's Fuxing District.

The incident occurred on the second day of the Dragon Boat Festival holiday. The man, identified by his surname Zhuang, was with friends, including one named Zhuo, at the Liuxiagu Valley recreational area, a popular spot for swimming and barbecues. Zhuang reportedly jumped into the water and did not resurface. His friend, Zhuo, immediately alerted authorities.

Emergency services, including police and firefighters, were dispatched to the scene. They located Zhuang in the water around 4:51 PM. Despite immediate resuscitation efforts, he showed no signs of life. He was subsequently transported to the Armed Forces General Hospital in Longtan for urgent medical care.

The police department's Luofu Police Station received the initial report of the suspected drowning at approximately 3:00 PM. The friend who reported the incident stated that he and Zhuang were junior high school classmates. The group of three had gathered to enjoy the holiday with water activities when the accident happened. The area is known for its natural beauty and opportunities for recreation, drawing visitors during holiday periods.
