Man found dead in Munich shelter; suspect in psychiatric care

A fatal assault occurred at a Munich homeless shelter, resulting in the death of a 55-year-old man. Police have apprehended a 22-year-old suspect, who has been transferred to a psychiatric facility. The incident took place on Thursday evening around 6:30 p.m. when emergency services responded to a call at the shelter in Obersendling.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, identified as a 55-year-old Iranian man, with severe injuries in his room. Despite attempts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The area was secured by law enforcement, who collected evidence and interviewed residents.

The 22-year-old German suspect, also a resident of the shelter, was apprehended approximately 90 minutes after the initial emergency call at the main train station. A judge has ordered his temporary placement in a psychiatric institution. Authorities have not yet disclosed details regarding a potential weapon or the specific injuries sustained by the victim. The homicide unit has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the violent act, the motive for which remains unknown.
