Man gets 10 years for attempted murder over boast of hidden cash

A South Korean court has sentenced a 45-year-old man to 10 years in prison for attempted robbery and murder. The incident occurred on January 27th in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province. The defendant, identified as A, met the victim, B, about two years prior when B was a customer at an adult entertainment establishment where A worked. Their relationship shifted after B sent A a text message boasting about having cash and valuables at his home. A then planned to steal from B. After repeatedly inviting B for meals, A visited B's home. During their meal, A noticed approximately 19.6 million won worth of gold coins and 5 million won in cash on a desk. When A asked about more money, B replied it was in his pocket and went to the bathroom. A then grabbed a kitchen knife and attacked B, stabbing him in the neck as B returned to watch a football game. A fled with the stolen items. Following the crime, A went to his home in Incheon and gave the stolen goods to his girlfriend, C, who kept them hidden. Both A and C were indicted. A was sentenced to 10 years for attempted robbery and murder, while C received four months for concealing stolen property. During the trial, A claimed he only intended to threaten B, not kill him. C denied knowing the items were stolen. However, the court ruled that A's repeated attacks on vital areas like the neck indicated a clear intent to kill. The court also found C guilty, noting she denied seeing the items even after police informed her they were stolen. Both A and C have appealed the verdict, and their cases will proceed to the appellate court.
