Man holds children hostage on balcony in Turkey during dispute with wife

A tense standoff unfolded in Erzurum, Turkey, when a man identified as Burhan K. held his two young children, aged 6 and 4, hostage on the balcony of a five-story apartment building. Burhan K. had taken the children after his estranged wife, A.K., left him and began living with her family.

Neighbors alerted authorities after witnessing Burhan K. shouting from the balcony with the children. Police, medical personnel, and firefighters were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters prepared an airbag beneath the balcony as a safety precaution, while police negotiators attempted to persuade Burhan K. to end his protest.
