Man in His 20s Arrested for Setting Fires in Eumseong Apartment Building

Authorities in Eumseong, South Korea, have apprehended a man in his 20s on suspicion of arson after he allegedly set multiple fires inside an apartment complex. The incident occurred on the evening of May 29.

The suspect is accused of using a lighter to set fire to various items, including a folding chair and paper posters, on the stairwells of an 18-story apartment building in Eumseong읍, Pyeongok-ri. The fires spread across several floors.

Residents of the building managed to extinguish the flames themselves before firefighters arrived. However, three individuals suffered smoke inhalation and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries was not immediately specified.

Law enforcement officials are currently investigating the motive behind the alleged arson. Police were able to identify and apprehend the suspect by reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the building. Authorities are considering seeking an arrest warrant for the suspect pending the outcome of their investigation into the motive and circumstances of the incident.
