Man in his 30s dies by suicide while under investigation for stalking

A man in his 30s who was under police investigation for allegedly stalking a former partner died after jumping from an apartment in Cheongju, South Korea.

The incident occurred at about 6 p.m. on the 22nd of last month at an apartment in Cheongju’s Heungdeok district, according to the Heungdeok Police Station and other sources. The man reportedly did not live at the location where he died.

Police had booked him without detention earlier that month on suspicion of stalking his former partner. He reportedly approached the woman even after receiving a provisional court order prohibiting contact.

Police planned to begin a compulsory investigation after obtaining an arrest warrant because he had failed to respond to requests to appear. Following his death, officers closed the case on the grounds that no prosecution could proceed.
